Last Week in Crypto

  • Bitcoin is up on the year, surpassing $90k after a slow month of December

  • Ethereum reclaimed $3k and is also up on the year now

  • Cautious optimism returning to the crypto space

Last Week in Stocks

  • Small caps (Russell 2000) showed relative strength, signifying smaller marketcap stocks might be ready to move this year

  • Nasdaq and S&P 500 down to start the year

  • US stocks delivered 3rd straight year of double digit gains driven by AI euphoria

Opinion on Markets: It’s nice to see crypto decide to show some momentum after two months of slow painful chop. I think it’s just the catalyst needed to get things going but it will be more important to see if it can hold versus the typical pattern we’ve seen where every move up later retraces. Smaller stocks rallying lines up with crypto moving so for those invested in higher risk assets this could be ideal conditions to see an “altcoin” rally in both stocks and crypto.

Bitcoin

A solid week of 4 straight green daily candles. This is giving crypto bulls a reason to be optimistic.

Prediction: Have left the squiggles on the chart November. We didn’t go quite as low as expected which is a good thing and more importantly we got back to that $90k level. Before I make another prediction I want to see how it reacts to this level which is now a very important one to see if we can push back to $100k or it’s going to give back a lot of gains. Leaning towards some upside right now.

Ethereum

A nice week and win for the bulls. Up 6.5% since last Sunday.

Prediction: We held the $3k support for now and that would mean most likely a target/area of interest being $3,400 next. Will try to stay optimistic for now if we are seeing a little bit of a rotation back to crypto. Too early to celebrate though.

Total Crypto Market Cap

Bulls have done a great job keeping the 3 trillion horizontal support alive. It’s now pushed back above it which can hopefully carry us into the $3.2 trillion area which was previous resistance.

🔥 Hot Markets

Semiconductors & AI: Still a hot market going into 2026. $MU leading the way and seeing moves by Intel and Nvidia.

Precious Metals & Mining: Cooling off a bit but still considered a hot sector and market to pay attention to

This Week in Stocks

The US captures Venezuelan president, additionally taking over their oil reserves. Will see how this news plays out when stocks react to it. The biggest thing is probably US unemployment rate this week but overall nothing major other than maybe Consumer Credit or Trade Deficit but unless wild those don’t really move the markets.

  • Initial Jobless claims, US trade deficit, Consumer Credit (Thursday, January 8th)

  • US Unemployment Rate - Expectedto go up to 4.7% from 4.6% (Friday, January 9th).
